A lot of people waste their potential in procurement even after being in the industry for 16 years.
Trust me, you don’t want to repeat their mistake.
Their CV will say they have 16 years of experience. But when you sit down to analyse their profile, you will notice that they did similar things for 16 years.
Their ‘real’ and quantifiable experience isn't 16 years. They have 2 years of experience multiplied by 8 — an illusion of experience.
In procurement, it’s easy to become complacent and get stuck in a routine, performing similar tasks year after year without seeking new challenges or development opportunities.
But the business dynamics are changing now. If you play the complacent game and stay still, you risk going backwards.
So, if you are early in your procurement career, make a commitment to continuously expand your horizons every 12-18 months or after completing one full cycle of activity.
→ Seek out new challenges
→ Upskill yourself
→ Go beyond your comfort zone
Your objective should be to get a breadth of experience that enables you to think in different ways to unlock value.
Trust me, this proactive approach will compound over the years and can pay huge dividends.
By gaining a wide array of experiences and expertise, you'll be able to accomplish in 3-5 years what many industry leaders take 10+ years to achieve. You'll leapfrog countless peers who get too comfortable and just rely on their past achievements.
I personally want to see some procurement superheroes shine and doing some great work in the industry.
I am looking to power 50 procurement pros in the next 3 years.
